Here we are again enjoying another beautiful day in Dallas, TX!

For today’s post I intend to talk about a service that is increasingly becoming popular as well as necessary for almost every healthcare facility: Video Remote Interpretation for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Go ahead and take a moment to think of what you would do with a patient who came into the ER but could not hear. A logical solution would be to call a sign language interpreter into your facility in order to provide interpretation services between the patient and staff. However, charges and fees for such a request are not only exorbitant but also a major time inconvenience since your patient has to wait for this interpreter to arrive. Don’t you think it would be easier to connect via the internet through a webcam? We do!

Nextalk On-Demand is a Hosted application, an IP based system that establishes high quality audio, video and text communications enabling deaf and hard of hearing individuals to communicate effectively through video sign language interpreters.
It is the only All-In-One Solution. Competitors offer video interpreting but not TTY/TDD text phone capability; Nexalk On-Demand provides BOTH

•	unlimited access to video interpreting, video or text relay, and TTY/TDD calling everywhere on premises
•	TTY/TDD text phone capabilities integrate easily with facility’s existing PBX and call center systems

This is a high quality cost-effective solution which works within your current infrastructure. End users simply need a desktop, laptop or computer-on-wheels (COW cart), a standard web camera and microphone, and an Internet connection. There is no special equipment to buy and you can have the service available in all areas of the hospital at the same time. All Interpreters are also nationally certified. The certifying body for American Sign Language interpreters is the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or RID.

At the start of February 2010, SpectraCorp was notified by Qwest Communications Group, Inc. that they were terminating all Operator Service Agreements effective March 31, 2010. All billable calls originating from Ani’s or phone numbers assigned to Qwest or billed calls dialed from a unique Qwest 8XX numbers after March 31st will be considered casual traffic and will be billed accordingly.

On February 26th, we had our proprietary Qwest 800 number routed to another 0+ platform; Discount Operator Services. This service change could affect you if Qwest (or BellSouth now AT&T LD in many states) was the default carrier for your Patient dialing services or you were using our unique Qwest number, 1-866-221-4545 to carry collect, credit card and third party calls for your patients. This number, 1-866-221-4545 is still valid. We ported this number to a new carrier to prevent any disruption in service while promoting Patient Satisfaction.

Discount Operator Service is a non-commissionable rate platform that was designed by SpectraCorp as an answer to the soaring cost of 1-800-Call ATT and 1-800 Collect. The rates for Discount Operator Service are 75% less than AT&T, CenturyLink or Verizon rates. Discount Operator Service is also up to 50% less expensive than Qwest was for state to state calling.

The Charges for Discount Operator Service by SpectraCorp are very simple. An Interstate Call is 0.30 cents per minute with a $2.99 connection fee. No matter what time of the day, what type of call or what method of payment. (The rates for calls within your home state may vary or even be less)

Hi there!

Welcome to SpectraCorp’s blog spot.

Working as a coordinator in the language services department, it’s my job to be well versed in all of our products and services so I’m here to provide any knowledge you may be seeking.

Given the fact that we have numerous consumers inquiring about our dual handset phones I thought I would start my first post by emphasizing not only its functions but also the benefits from using dual handset phones in general.

Overall, these phones are very easy to use and provide a logical solution to those wanting to engage in a three-way call but through the same phone dock. First let me describe how to use one: User #1 picks up a handset, dials their desired number and User #2 may simply pick up the other handset. With the users holding different handsets they can both hear the caller on the other end. Easy right? When it comes to using these phones with our Language Interpretation services these phones are even handier. Since we mainly work within the healthcare industry, the users in this scenario would be a medical staff member and a patient. Instead of having to pass a handset back and forth when it comes time to engage in language interpretation, dual handset phones allow a sanitary way to communicate between staff member and patients. I know none of us would want to share a device that we need to hold close to our face and mouth with someone who is sick.

Conversations via dual handsets are also private in comparison to putting the call on speaker phone. Don’t get me wrong it’s easy to close a door but what if the room with the speaker phone had no way to be closed off from the general public? A patient’s privacy is extremely important and one should always keep that in mind.

SpectraCorp offers two types of dual handset phones: corded and cordless. Cordless speaks for itself when it comes to convenience since neither user is required to crouch over the phone dock. A bed-ridden patient, for example, would have a greater benefit using these. However, corded phones have their advantages as well since we are able to program up to three auto-dial buttons. Busy staff members would probably appreciate these since they’ll have a quick and easy way to reach the interpreter without having to remember the number. In the end it all comes down to the situation and preference.

So let’s re-cap: Dual handset phones are easy to use, convenient, sanitary, private, and last but not least, affordable. The only decision left to make then is: corded? Or cordless?

Tune in next week to read up more on my detailed and in depth blog about our over the phone interpretation system!
